A tragic incident occurred in Botataung Township, Yangon Region, where two women lost their lives due to smoke inhalation. The incident took place on the morning of June 8 in an apartment located on 43rd Street in Ward 6 of Botataung Township. The two women were sleeping in an air-conditioned room with all windows and doors closed, having forgotten to turn off a pot of food they were cooking.
Smoke from the cooking pot filled the sealed room, leading to the women’s deaths from asphyxiation. The deaths were confirmed around 9 AM, and the bodies were transported to the Japanese Hospital through the joint efforts of the Bogyoke Market Philanthropic Association and the White Hand Social Welfare Association. Local residents confirmed that the cause of death was smoke inhalation in the enclosed space.
Similar incidents have occurred before, including a case on May 1 where four family members died in a fourth-floor apartment on Shwe Laung Road in Sanchaung Township while using an air conditioner with a generator. Social welfare organizations have issued warnings about the dangers of using air conditioning in sealed rooms and leaving kitchen appliances unattended, emphasizing the importance of proper ventilation and safety precautions in residential spaces.
