Thai authorities have arrested 48 Myanmar youth who were attempting to enter Thailand illegally in a sealed cargo truck in Kanchanaburi province. The arrest took place at 6 AM on June 7 through security checkpoints in the Kanchanaburi region, where the group had entered Thailand through both forest and water routes via the Three Pagodas Pass border area between Myanmar and Thailand.
The arrested Myanmar nationals, aged between 18 and 35 years, were found to be traveling without any legal documentation, passports, or other forms of identification. All of them were cramped into a single sealed cargo truck in conditions that were severely overcrowded and unsuitable for the number of people being transported. The situation highlighted the desperate measures taken by these individuals to enter Thailand.
According to Thai authorities’ investigations, these young people had left Myanmar due to economic and political difficulties, with the intention of seeking employment opportunities in Thailand. Thai officials have announced that all arrested Myanmar nationals will face legal action under Thailand’s immigration laws for illegal entry into the country. The authorities have emphasized that they will process this case according to standard procedures for illegal border crossings, while noting the concerning trend of increased attempts at unauthorized entry through various border points.
