A corporal from the military forces was killed during an attack while operating an extortion checkpoint in Kongyarshay village, Gyobingauk Township, Bago Region. According to officials from Battalion 3801 Unit 5 Gyobingauk HERO guerrilla forces, the incident occurred around 10 AM on June 7 when revolutionary forces targeted Corporal Soe Raza, who was collecting money from local civilians at a checkpoint. During the attack, Corporal Soe Raza was struck by three bullets and died instantly at the scene.
Following the attack, revolutionary forces seized several items from the deceased corporal, including one hand grenade, nine rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, one mobile phone, 15,000 kyats in cash, a national identity card, and a veteran’s card. These items were reportedly being used in the military’s illegal extortion operations targeting local civilians. A spokesperson from Battalion 3801 Unit 5 confirmed that the attack was carried out specifically to target the military’s extortion activities in the area.
Revolutionary forces have stated that they will continue to target military checkpoints in Gyobingauk Township as long as the military continues its practice of illegal extortion from civilians. According to a statement from Battalion 3801 Unit 5, fighting will persist until the military’s oppression of civilians ceases. The military’s checkpoint extortion system has severely impacted local residents, causing significant economic hardship and making daily survival increasingly difficult for civilian populations in the area. The practice of setting up checkpoints to collect money from civilians has become a common tactic used by the military forces to generate funds while simultaneously maintaining control over local populations through intimidation and force.
