
According to revolutionary forces’ statements, 17 military officers including two Brigadier Generals from the military council were killed and one Lieutenant Colonel was captured as a prisoner of war during battles across Myanmar. While numerous officers and soldiers from the military council were killed in battles during May, including casualties from two helicopter crashes in Banmaw, this record specifically documents the deaths of high-ranking officers and notable junior officers among the extensive casualties.
In the Bawlakhe battle in Karenni State on May 6, Colonel Aung Kyaw Thet (aka) Ohn Phay, the Strategic Commander of Division 66, was killed. On May 8, in Shwegyin Township, Bago Region, when KNLA, SOF, PDF, PKPF, local PDF and drone teams attacked and captured the military council’s Infantry Battalion 598 headquarters in Nyaung Chaik Tauk village, Deputy Captain Shein Pyae Aung was killed. On May 18, when revolutionary forces attacked the Taungoo Air Force Base with 107mm rockets, two Lieutenant Colonels and two Captains were killed.
Similarly, on May 19, when the military council’s Army Training School in Thandaunggyi Township was attacked with 107mm rockets, three Majors were killed. In Kachin State, when the KIA shot down two military helicopters carrying reinforcements to Banmaw, one helicopter crashed in Shwegu Township, killing Captain Myo Htet Aung (pilot) along with three air force officers and 19 soldiers including a strategic commander. On May 21, when revolutionary forces ambushed military troops with mines at North Yama Bridge near Yinmarpin Township as they were leaving Yamsi Wampaung in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, with copper truck security detail, Major Nyan Htun and five soldiers were killed.
In a notable incident in May, retired Brigadier General Choe Htun Aung was killed in an attack by revolutionary forces in Mayangone Township, Yangon, on May 22. In Rakhine State, during a battle in Kyaukphyu Township on May 26, Brigadier General Kyaw Myo Aung, Strategic Commander of Division 11, was killed by AA fire along with a Captain from Infantry Battalion 543. On May 30, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Lin Khaing, First-Class Division Military Chief-G1, was captured as a prisoner of war by the AA during the battle at Min Tet Taung village in Kyaukphyu Township.
