
Local sources confirmed to Yangon Modern News that Hla Win, the administrator of Ward 7 in Myawaddy City, Karen State, was fatally shot today. The incident occurred around 1 PM on June 4 when unidentified gunmen stopped and fired at his vehicle as he was driving along Saw Chit Thu Road in Ward 7. According to local sources, Hla Win died instantly in the attack. Shortly after the shooting, military council troops arrived at the scene and retrieved his body.
Sources familiar with the situation reported that the deceased administrator, Hla Win, was known for oppressing local residents in various ways and was particularly aggressive in demanding money from civilians. He was also identified as an informant for the military council and was notorious for threatening and pressuring local residents. The local community had reportedly suffered under his administration, as he consistently implemented oppressive policies aligned with the military council’s directives.
Following the incident, around 8 PM the same evening, troops from the military council’s Battalion 275 began indiscriminately firing heavy weapons in the area. However, local residents could not confirm the exact locations where these artillery shells landed. Local observers suggested that this artillery barrage might have been a retaliatory action by the military council following the death of one of their administrative officials. The situation has created additional tension in the area, with residents expressing concern about potential further military actions in response to the shooting incident.
