Police sources in Pyin Oo Lwin have confirmed that military lobbyist Zaw Bhone Hein, who was arrested for allegedly insulting military leaders including Min Aung Hlaing, is currently being interrogated by military intelligence at a detention center under the Central Regional Military Command. The arrest took place on June 2 around 1 PM when military forces entered his residence in Pyin Oo Lwin. Sources indicate that investigators are primarily focused on uncovering any potential motives behind his alleged insults toward military leadership.
The case against Zaw Bhone Hein was initially filed on May 5 at the Dagon Myothit (South) Township Police Station in Yangon under Section 66(D) of the Telecommunications Law. The complaint was lodged by Daw Moe Moe Khaing, a military supporter and member of the Ma Ba Tha organization. The arrest has created divisions among military supporters, particularly after it was revealed that military lobbyist Han Nyein Oo played a key role in the arrest operation. This has led some Ma Ba Tha members and military supporters to label Han Nyein Oo as a traitor, highlighting growing rifts within pro-military factions.
Ma Ba Tha members have defended Zaw Bhone Hein, claiming his statements were intended to benefit the military, while accusing Han Nyein Oo and others of actively working to undermine the armed forces. Meanwhile, Han Nyein Oo has called for the arrest of all Zaw Bhone Hein’s supporters, alleging they are collaborators plotting to rebel against the military. The situation has exposed deepening divisions within pro-military groups, similar to recent conflicts such as the dispute between Pyusawhti leader Zaw Yu Htun and a military administrator in Meiktila, which led to multiple arrests and the resignation of over 20 Pyusawhti members from their militia duties.
