In southern Shan State’s Nyaung Shwe Township, military council forces and Pa-O National Organization (PNO) militia groups conducted an offensive that resulted in the burning of civilian homes. According to an official from Battalion 1009-Inle People’s Defense Force, the military council entered the area with approximately 1,000 troops and burned more than 10 civilian houses during their operation.
On June 2 at around 8 AM, when military council forces and PNO militia entered the areas of Phaya Taung village and Ye Pu village, they were met with resistance from People’s Defense Forces. The battle lasted until around 4 PM, with the People’s Defense Forces eventually having to retreat due to the military council’s superior numbers. While there were casualties among the military council forces and militia members during the battle, the exact numbers could not be confirmed.
After the People’s Defense Forces withdrew, the military council forces and militia entered Ye Pu and Phaya Taung villages. At approximately 4:30 PM, they began burning houses in the northern part of Ye Pu village and the homes of U Zaw Zaw Tun, U Ya Kyaw, U Aung Lin Oo, and U Kyaw Naing Oo in Phaya Taung village. The fires spread to nearby houses, resulting in the destruction of more than 10 residential buildings in total.
Battalion 1009-Inle People’s Defense Force has strongly condemned the actions of the military council and PNO militia forces in burning innocent civilians’ homes. They have declared their commitment to continue fighting resolutely until the revolution succeeds, while protecting the lives and property of the people and pursuing justice. The defense force emphasized that they will maintain their resistance against the military council’s oppressive actions and continue defending civilian populations in the region.
