Local residents have reported that the terrorist military forces entered Shwe Mutaw village in Naung Cho Township, Shan State, killed civilians, and dressed them in Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) uniforms as part of their propaganda efforts. On May 29, the military terrorists raided the village, killing several villagers and arresting 45 civilians. Among those killed was a young man who had returned to the village from hiding to attend his father’s funeral and cremation ceremony.
The military terrorists not only killed villagers but also looted their livestock, including cattle and buffalo. While military-affiliated media channels are spreading false information by publishing photos of the killed civilians dressed in TNLA uniforms, claiming them to be dead TNLA members, local residents have confirmed these as deliberate misrepresentations. Although the Ta’ang National Liberation Army had previously warned residents to evacuate the area due to potential military operations, some villagers were unable to flee due to accommodation difficulties and livelihood concerns.
This incident represents another instance of the military’s ongoing pattern of killing innocent civilians and attempting to blame ethnic armed organizations for their crimes. The military continues to torture and kill civilians through various means while creating and spreading false narratives through their media channels to cover up their criminal acts. While local residents directly witness and experience the military’s brutality, the military persists in its efforts to conceal these atrocities. This systematic approach of killing civilians and spreading disinformation has been a recurring strategy employed by the military forces in their campaign of violence against the people of Myanmar.
