Local residents and protest groups from villages along the Chindwin River in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, have conducted a public movement calling for international support to take action against the terrorist military under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). This movement aims to draw increased international attention to the military’s violence against Myanmar’s people and encourage necessary punitive measures.
Since the coup, the terrorist military has been systematically oppressing and committing violence against civilians, including forced military conscription, war crimes, killing of civilians, and torture. As a result, local people are demanding action under Article 33, which represents the ILO’s strongest possible measure against violations. The residents of Salingyi area include many who have been forced to flee their homes, lost their properties, and had family members killed due to military violence.
Through this public movement, the people hope to gain attention from the international community and prompt effective action against the military regime. The demonstration reflects the desperate situation of civilians who continue to face severe human rights violations and oppression under military rule. The residents of villages along the Chindwin River are among countless Myanmar communities that have suffered from the military’s brutal campaigns, which have included airstrikes, arbitrary arrests, and destruction of civilian properties.
