The administrator of Myay Si village tract in Letpadan Township, Bago Region, who had been actively involved in forcibly recruiting young people for military service, was killed in an attack by the Shwetanmyay People’s Defense Force (PDF). According to a spokesperson from the Shwetanmyay PDF, the incident occurred around 11:30 AM on May 27, 2024, when PDF members conducted a direct assault on Administrator Chit Lin’s residence, resulting in his immediate death.
Prior to his role as an administrator appointed by the military council, Chit Lin had been serving as an informant for the military. Local sources revealed that he played a central role in the forced recruitment of young people in the Letpadan area for military service. He was known to personally visit homes of young people, using threats and intimidation to force them into military service. Additionally, he regularly reported civilian movements and activities to the military council, making him a significant threat to local residents’ security. His actions had created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the local population, particularly among families with young members.
According to the Shwetanmyay PDF official, Administrator Chit Lin was killed instantly after being hit by two gunshots. The decision to target him was made specifically due to his active involvement in forced military recruitment and his role as a military informant. The incident comes amid increasing reports of forced military recruitment in the Letpadan area, which has caused significant concern among local residents. The military council’s practice of forcing civilians into military service through local administrators has become more aggressive in recent months, leading to growing tension and fear within communities. The situation highlights the ongoing conflict between civilian defense forces and military-appointed local administrators who enforce the military council’s policies against their own communities.
