The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied revolutionary forces have successfully captured multiple guard posts including the Win Light Hotel near Military Operations Command-21 (MOC-21), the military council’s last remaining headquarters in the battle for Bhamo City, Kachin State, on May 27. The offensive operations began around 4 AM, with intense fighting reported near MOC-21 headquarters. Despite the military council forces’ resistance using snipers, heavy weapons, and drones from the Win Light Hotel, revolutionary forces managed to capture these positions. The battles continued through rainy conditions, with military council troops taking defensive positions in high-rise buildings throughout Bhamo city.
Current reports indicate that revolutionary forces have advanced to positions closest to MOC-21 and continue their offensive operations. Military sources confirm that the battle for Bhamo city has been ongoing since December 4, 2024, with continuous fighting for over five months. The allied forces participating in the battle include the KIA, KPDF, PDF(MOD), KNA(B), ABSDF, AA, and KIA Gohkha troops. While the fighting had temporarily paused on May 20 when the military council launched attacks using two helicopters, operations have now resumed with renewed intensity.
The revolutionary forces have been systematically capturing defensive positions around MOC-21, with sources reporting that the capture of Win Light Hotel represents a significant strategic victory. The hotel had been used as a key vantage point by military council forces for sniper positions and drone operations. The ongoing offensive has brought revolutionary forces closer than ever to MOC-21, though military council forces continue to resist from fortified positions within the city’s urban infrastructure. The battle conditions have been particularly challenging due to recent rainfall and poor visibility, but revolutionary forces have maintained their momentum in the offensive operations.
