A civilian was severely injured after stepping on a landmine planted by the terrorist military council forces on the western bank of the Sittaung River in Htantabin Township, Bago Region. The incident occurred on May 23 when Ko Shan Aye, a 36-year-old resident of Kwantaung village on the western bank of the Sittaung River, left his home to go fishing in the river and accidentally stepped on a landmine planted by military council troops.
The explosion caused severe injuries to Ko Shan Aye, severing his ankle and causing serious damage up to his knee, according to local residents. Currently, the terrorist military council has established bases in villages along the Sittaung River valley in Htantabin Township and planted numerous landmines, causing significant hardships for local residents who rely on agricultural work and fishing during the rainy season for their livelihood.
Due to the continuing incidents of civilians being injured by landmines, revolutionary forces have intensified their mine clearance operations. On May 25, members of Battalion 3504 and KNDF forces successfully recovered four additional mines. The type of mines currently being used are MM-2 landmines, which are more powerful than conventional landmines and pose a lethal threat to human life. The revolutionary forces have stated they will continue their mine clearance operations until local people can travel safely in the area.
