A freight train derailed following a mine explosion on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway line, which is frequently used to transport military supplies and ammunition to the Southeast Military Command headquarters in Mawlamyine, Mon State, according to Myanmar Railways. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM on May 25, when freight train No. 687 with locomotive DF-1373, pulling 19 carriages, was traveling from Thayezinkone Station in Paung Township toward Taungoo. The explosion took place near mile post 124/3 close to Kalegyun village in the Mokaung village tract of Thaton Township.
The mine blast caused four freight carriages to derail and damaged approximately 250 feet of railway track. A staff member from Mawlamyine Railway Station confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. All train services between Yangon and Mawlamyine have been temporarily suspended. Revolutionary sources report that the military council regularly uses this railway route to transport weapons, ammunition, and reinforcements to the Southeast Command headquarters in Mawlamyine and other military-controlled areas.
Prior to this incident, on May 6, another explosion occurred on the same railway line between Nyeinpinlae Station and Taungsun Station in Bilin Township, Mon State, which resulted in the collapse of a railway bridge. Revolutionary sources indicate that resistance forces have been regularly targeting the military council’s supply routes, leading to frequent mine attacks on railway sections. These attacks are part of broader efforts to disrupt the military’s logistics and supply lines throughout the region.
