A fatal incident occurred at the administrator’s office in Male Wun village, Kamaungkyi Township, Kawthoung District, Tanintharyi Region, where a conflict between Pyu Saw Htee members resulted in one death. The incident took place during a meeting of Pyu Saw Htee members at the village administrator’s office on the evening of May 22. During the meeting, a dispute broke out between two members known locally as Kular and Phyu. The confrontation escalated when Kular stabbed Phyu six times with a scabbard, resulting in Phyu’s immediate death at the scene.
According to local residents, the military council in Kamaungkyi Township has been organizing Pyu Saw Htee and militia groups by recruiting criminals, alcoholics, and unemployed individuals. These recruits are provided with military training and assigned to perform security duties and patrol activities for the military. While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, local sources confirmed that the perpetrator has been arrested and detained. The military council’s practice of establishing such groups across the country, arming them, and providing training has been part of their strategy to maintain control over the population.
This incident highlights the deteriorating state of law and order under the military council’s administration. The Pyu Saw Htee groups, formed and supported by the military council, have been known to intimidate and abuse local civilians, and now violence has erupted within their own ranks. The formation of these groups throughout Myanmar, where the military council provides weapons and training to maintain their authority, has led to increased instability and violence in local communities. This case serves as a clear example of how the breakdown of law and order under military council rule has created an environment where violence can occur even among members of their own supported groups.
