
Residents from five villages have been forced to flee as fighting erupts near mile post 147 on the highway west of Taungoo city in Bago Region, with the military conducting aerial bombardments. The conflict began around 1:15 PM on May 22, when intense fighting broke out between the military council forces and revolutionary alliance forces near mile post 147 on the highway west of Taungoo city.
The military council has been conducting airstrikes and machine gun attacks using helicopters and fighter jets in the area surrounding Pyar Gyi village, west of the Panpei Creek and Taungoo junction, forcing large numbers of local residents to evacuate to safety. The fighting has reached the closest point to Taungoo city yet, with Husky aircraft and fighter jets conducting bombing raids in the vicinity of Pyar Gyi village. The military has positioned three artillery vehicles in Kan Pauk Gyi village east of the highway to provide supporting fire.
Due to the military council’s aerial attacks and heavy weapons fire, residents from multiple villages including Pyar Gyi, Taw Pu, Kyet Yoe Pin, Zi Pin Tha, and Ngun Min have been forced to flee their homes. Revolutionary forces are reportedly attacking a power plant in the area. The fighting has caused widespread displacement of civilians who are seeking shelter in safer locations away from the conflict zone.
Additionally, since May 18, over one thousand local residents have been displaced as the military council advances its forces toward the Chin hills region. Chin revolutionary forces including CDF CDM SIYIN, PDF Zoland, and KKG have been defending against the military council’s offensive since 8 AM on May 21. The resistance forces continue to engage the advancing military troops as they attempt to protect civilian populations in the area.
