The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has reported ongoing airstrikes and chemical weapon attacks by the military council in Naung Cho Township, northern Shan State, which is under TNLA control. On May 22, the military council conducted four separate bombing raids on Umhtee village in Naung Cho Township, with two attacks at 11:50 AM and two more at 11:53 AM. During these raids, four 250-pound bombs were dropped despite there being no active fighting in the area at the time of the attacks.
Prior to this, on May 21, the military council launched drone attacks on Umhtee village, dropping 15 conventional bombs and one chemical weapon. These attacks resulted in one civilian being injured. On May 20, the military council’s jet fighters targeted Hokho village in Naung Cho Township, which is under PSLF/TNLA administration, with a 250-pound bomb during a period of no active conflict. This attack resulted in the destruction of one civilian residence. These attacks have continued despite there being no military engagement in the areas targeted.
Although the military council announced a nationwide ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, they have continued daily ground offensives, artillery attacks, and aerial bombardments in TNLA-controlled territories. In response to these ongoing threats, the TNLA has issued warnings to local civilians to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the military council’s airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery fire. The continued attacks during a declared ceasefire period demonstrate the military council’s disregard for their own announced cessation of hostilities and the safety of civilian populations in the affected areas.
