A spokesperson from the Golden Valley Warriors confirmed that they carried out an operation against retired Major General Choe Thun Aung, an instructor at the National Defense University and recipient of the Wunna Kyawthing medal awarded by Min Aung Hlaing, at his residence in Ward 5, Mayangone Township, Yangon Region at 9:20 AM today, May 22.
Major General Choe Thun Aung was teaching Internal Security & Counterterrorism and International Relations courses at the National Defense College (NDC), a prestigious military institution where officers from the rank of Major and above receive advanced military training. He previously served as ambassador to Brunei and Cambodia before returning to Myanmar to teach at the NDC continuously. The operation was carried out after extensive intelligence gathering and verification by the Golden Valley Warriors.
Despite being retired with the rank of Major General, he was targeted as part of ongoing operations against military educational infrastructure supporting the military’s daily inhumane actions. He was among Min Aung Hlaing’s trusted associates and traveled on military transport aircraft MAF003 from Mingaladon Air Base to Naypyidaw on March 26, 2025, along with other high-ranking military officials and prominent figures for the Armed Forces Day parade. He returned to Yangon on March 28 via military transport aircraft MAF0011.
Major General Choe Thun Aung was also involved in the military’s People’s War Strategy through the Veterans Organization, serving as a regional leader. On January 1, 2023, Min Aung Hlaing personally awarded him the Wunna Kyawthing medal along with 5 ticals of gold as an honorary award. The Golden Valley Warriors continue to gather intelligence on major military pillars and air force pilots, requesting that any related information be forwarded to urban guerrilla groups in Yangon. The organization emphasized that military instructors who continue teaching and supporting the military’s daily atrocities remain legitimate military targets.
