A spokesperson from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) has confirmed that seven military personnel, including three majors, were killed when resistance forces launched a rocket attack on the Army Combat Training School (Bogyoke Aung San) in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State. The attack was carried out at 7:20 AM on May 19, using 107mm rockets, with four out of five rockets successfully hitting their targets.
During the attack, seven major-rank officer trainees sustained serious injuries and were evacuated to a military hospital, where three of them later died. Additionally, two security personnel assigned to the school principal and two lance corporals were killed instantly. The attack also caused significant damage to the school principal’s residence, vehicle garage, two large vehicles, and officer trainee dormitories including Ingyin, Thazin, and Hnin Si buildings, as well as the central guard post barracks.
The assault also resulted in damage to six weapon mounting platforms and the ceiling of the school headquarters’ armory, affecting the weapons stored inside. The strike on the central guard post barracks led to injuries among three soldiers, while an additional 16 personnel sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The operation was a joint effort by Brave Warriors for Myanmar, Anti-Coup People’s Liberation Force, Mountain Knight Civilian Defense Forces, and KNLA Brigade 2, Battalion 5.
The Bogyoke Aung San Combat Training School serves as a crucial military training facility in Lower Myanmar, providing tactical and leadership training for platoon commanders, company commanders, and battalion commanders who lead various military units. The attack, designated as BWM Mission 38, was carried out by BWM and its allies as a response on behalf of the people against military council officers who, under the junta’s command, have been systematically oppressing civilians through various means. The school is considered a significant target as it produces military officers who implement the council’s oppressive policies against the civilian population.
