The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that it will engage in negotiations with Indian government officials regarding the death of approximately 10 members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) at the India-Myanmar border. The incident occurred on May 14 in the border area of Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, where members of India’s Assam Rifles opened fire, resulting in the deaths of 10 PDF members from the Tamu District.
Following the incident, the Tamu District PDF communicated with the NUG government to investigate the ground situation. NUG spokesperson Nai Boon Lat confirmed that the government is currently in discussions with Indian officials to uncover the truth about the incident. The NUG’s Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively engaged in negotiations with their Indian counterparts regarding this matter.
According to a statement released by the Assam Rifles, their forces accidentally fired upon the PDF group during military operations near the India-Myanmar border in the vicinity of New Santal at the international boundary in Chandel District, Manipur. However, neither side has officially announced whether the bodies of the 10 deceased PDF members have been returned. The incident has highlighted the complex security situation along the India-Myanmar border and the need for improved communication and coordination between forces operating in the region.
