The military council is planning to launch new offensives starting from late May to reclaim territories they have lost, according to military sources in Naypyidaw. During a military meeting led by Min Aung Hlaing, it was decided to continue aerial attacks and territory clearance operations even during the rainy season. These decisions indicate a potential increase in violence against civilians by the military council.
In Naypyidaw, an earthquake measuring 3.7 magnitude occurred this morning on May 20, causing panic among non-CDM staff under the military council and local residents. This seismic event temporarily disrupted the military council’s administrative operations and created anxiety among staff and civilians. The earthquake’s impact highlighted the vulnerability of the military council’s infrastructure and administrative capabilities in the capital.
In Mezaligun town of Ingapu Township, Ayeyarwady Region, the military council forces are forcibly conducting military training for local youth under the pretext of defending against possible attacks by the Arakan Army (AA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF). Additionally, they are extorting money from local businesses, demanding 300,000 kyats from each business owner and 10,000 kyats from each household. These oppressive measures are having severe economic and social impacts on local residents, demonstrating the military council’s continuing pattern of exploitation and coercion of civilians. The forced military training and financial extortion represent clear violations of civilian rights and add to the mounting pressure on local communities already struggling under military rule.
