On May 18, military airstrikes targeted Nwe Yin village in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in four civilian deaths and six injuries, according to local residents. The attacks occurred without any ongoing fighting in the area. The aerial bombardment took place at 12:45 PM, with three separate strikes hitting the eastern, central, and western parts of the village. The casualties included Daw May Yi, a Grade 12 student named Ma Kyet Zin Oo, a Grade 6 student named Maung Phone Myint Thant, and Ma Thein Mrat Thu.
Among the injured were Maung Way Yan Soe, Ma Swe Ma Win, Ma Phyu Phyu Lon, Ko Pho Htut, Ko Linn Sein, and a two-year-old child. The young child’s injuries were so severe that their hand had to be amputated due to bomb fragment wounds. One of the injured, Ma Thein Mrat Thu, later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the conditions of the other wounded civilians remain critical, as confirmed by local sources.
Similarly, in Mindat Township, Chin State, military forces conducted three consecutive days of airstrikes from May 15 to May 17, resulting in two civilian deaths and eleven injuries, according to an announcement from the Mindat Township People’s Administration Team. Notably, on May 17 in the afternoon, an attack on a village in Township Area 1 involved the use of cluster bombs, with evidence showing approximately ten bombs exploding within and around the village area. The military council’s continuous aerial attacks on civilian areas have raised serious concerns about the targeting of non-combatant populations, with documented evidence of the use of cluster munitions, which are particularly dangerous to civilian populations.
