On May 18, the military council conducted an aerial attack near a school in Hlezekume village, Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, according to a representative from the Thaung Tha Township People’s Movement Committee. The attack occurred around 5:10 AM, targeting an area near the village school without any ongoing conflict in the area. While no civilians were injured in the attack, two houses were destroyed and one cow belonging to local residents was killed.
The representative from the Thaung Tha Township People’s Movement Committee stated that this aerial attack was not conducted for military purposes but rather to intimidate and terrorize civilian populations. Such attacks significantly impact the daily lives of local residents and create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. The targeting of areas near schools is particularly concerning as it threatens the education sector and raises serious concerns among local communities about the safety of students and teachers.
Currently, the Thaung Tha Township area frequently experiences aerial attacks by the military council, forcing many local residents to abandon their homes and properties to seek safety elsewhere. Additionally, the military council’s actions have been severely impacting local agricultural and livestock farming activities. The death of the cow in this incident serves as evidence of how these attacks affect the economic livelihood of local farmers. Local residents point out that such destruction of civilian property and livestock creates significant hardships for farming communities who rely on these resources for their survival.
