A spokesperson from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) has confirmed that their forces successfully launched an attack on the Ketumadi Air Base in Taungoo, Bago Region, using 107mm rockets. Of the 11 rockets fired, 8 successfully hit their targets within the air base, likely causing casualties and damage. The attack was carried out at 1:48 AM on May 18, and authorities are currently assessing the extent of damage and casualties resulting from the operation.
The Ketumadi Air Base has been identified as a crucial military installation that plays a significant role in the military council’s war crimes. It has been particularly active in recent aerial attacks against revolutionary forces in the southern regions, which prompted its targeting as BWM Mission 37. The operation was a collaborative effort involving multiple resistance groups, including Brave Warriors for Myanmar, Mountain Knight Civilian Defense Forces, Anti-Coup People’s Liberation Force, and the Northern Thandaung Special Region Group.
The military council, having suffered numerous defeats in ground battles against people’s revolutionary forces, has increasingly relied on air power to maintain its operations. A recent example of their aerial attacks includes the bombing of a school in Ohtein Kwin village in Depayin Township, which resulted in the deaths of students and teachers. The military continues to target civilians across the country through airstrikes, attempting to maintain their illegitimate hold on power through these tactics of terror.
Revolutionary forces have emphasized that the success of the Spring Revolution depends significantly on dismantling the military council’s air force capabilities. This includes targeting air bases, fighter aircraft, pilots, fuel supplies, and ammunition factories, along with all supporting infrastructure that enables air operations. They have called upon all revolutionary forces and civilians to contribute to this effort within their capabilities, recognizing that neutralizing the military’s air power is crucial for the success of the revolution. The resistance groups continue to coordinate their efforts to systematically target and weaken the military council’s air force infrastructure throughout the country.
