Military council leader Min Aung Hlaing has convened a two-day meeting with military regional commanders from across the country in Naypyidaw from May 15 to 16, primarily focusing on military operations, according to military sources in Naypyidaw. The meeting is similar to the regular quarterly meetings that haven’t been held for an extended period. Military sources confirmed that the main topics of discussion centered around territorial control and military operations. This gathering marks a significant military planning session after a considerable gap in such high-level meetings.
The meeting follows Min Aung Hlaing’s recent visit to Russia from May 7 to 10, during which he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During this meeting, he reportedly received assurances from the Chinese President regarding support for Myanmar’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and stability measures. Following this meeting, there has been a notable increase in the severity of airstrikes by the military council. Military sources in Naypyidaw have issued warnings that more intensive military operations may be launched following this current meeting with regional commanders, cautioning resistance forces and civilians to remain vigilant.
The military sources emphasize that the meeting’s outcomes could lead to intensified military campaigns and increased pressure on civilian populations. The military council appears to be escalating its efforts to maintain territorial control, which could result in heightened military activities across various regions. The sources stress the importance of increased security awareness among the public and resistance forces, given the potential for expanded military operations following this strategic meeting. This gathering of military commanders represents a significant planning phase that could impact the intensity and scope of future military operations throughout the country.
