According to Mae Sot media in Thailand, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces have begun attacking the military council’s Infantry Battalion 24 camp at Maw Pho Kay near the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State, causing over 400 civilians to flee to Thailand. The attack began on the morning of May 15 in KNU Brigade 7 territory, where KNLA and KNDO joint forces are conducting drone strikes against the military council’s position. The ongoing offensive has forced local residents from villages near the Thai-Myanmar border to seek refuge across the border.
On May 13 evening, KNU and PDF joint forces successfully captured the military council’s Thalay strategic camp, recovering 10 soldier bodies while approximately 20 soldiers fled to the Thai side. Previously, on May 9, the forces had also captured the Thaw Bi Khee camp. The operations are part of a continuous offensive along the Thai-Myanmar border. The KNU has successfully captured several military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border during March, April, and May, including Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Bi Khee, Maw Pha Thu, and Thalay camps. Currently, only Maw Pho Kay, Mae La, and Naw Ta Ra military camps remain, with Maw Pho Kay now under attack.
The ongoing military operations have resulted in the displacement of 414 Myanmar citizens who fled to Thailand this morning. These developments represent significant progress in the resistance forces’ campaign to eliminate military council presence along the border area, while also highlighting the humanitarian impact on local civilian populations who are forced to flee their homes due to the fighting. The systematic capture of military positions demonstrates the increasing effectiveness of the coordinated operations between various resistance forces in the region.
