The military council-appointed administrator of Shwetaung Village in Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, was shot and killed during an arrest operation by the Nagani Guerrilla Force. The incident occurred on May 12 at approximately 5:30 PM. The administrator, identified as Tun Oo, was known to have been collaborating with the military council and oppressing local civilians through various coercive measures.
According to a representative from the Nagani Guerrilla Force – Myingyan District 3 People’s Defense Force, they had been tracking the administrator’s movements for some time. During their surveillance, they noticed that he would avoid returning home when their forces were present in the area, only returning after they had departed. The final confrontation occurred on the street when they signaled for him to stop his motorcycle. When he refused to stop and attempted to retaliate with hand grenades, the forces were compelled to open fire. The representative explained that their original intention was to capture him alive, but his resistance and attempt to use weapons led to the fatal shooting.
The deceased administrator, aged 54, was found in possession of two hand grenades and a national identity card, which were seized by the resistance forces. The People’s Defense Force members were able to safely withdraw from the area without sustaining any casualties. The Nagani Guerrilla Force has issued a statement declaring their continued commitment to eliminating all military council collaborators, including administrators, Pyu Saw Htee members, soldiers, and police officers who are involved in oppressing civilians through forced military recruitment, forced labor as porters, and arbitrary arrests. They emphasized their ongoing mission to protect civilians from these forms of military council-backed oppression and stated that they would continue their operations against those who assist in implementing the military council’s repressive policies.
