Two elderly civilians were killed when the military conducted an airstrike on Aung Gyi Nyaung Pin Thar village in Mone Township, Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region. According to friends of the deceased, the victims were an 80-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman who died instantly in the attack. The incident occurred on the morning of May 13, when the military conducted an aerial bombardment without any ongoing fighting in the area. U Kyaw Aung and Daw Taw were killed in the attack, while a 10-year-old child was also injured. The bombing also caused significant damage to a monastery and several residential homes in the village.
Local sources confirmed that there were no revolutionary forces stationed in the village, which was populated only by ordinary civilians. The military council deliberately targeted the village with direct airstrikes, resulting in civilian casualties. Similarly, later that night, the military council conducted additional airstrikes on Mogok city in Mandalay Region. The first strike occurred at 10:15 PM, targeting Ward 148, followed by another attack at 11:50 PM on the Shwe Lei Pya area. Military sources confirmed that 500-pound bombs were used in these attacks. The military council has recently intensified its air campaigns across the country, leading to increased civilian casualties and destruction.
According to local military sources, the attacks on Mogok city, which is currently under TNLA control, were particularly severe. The military council has been escalating its aerial warfare tactics nationwide, showing a concerning pattern of increased violence against civilian populations. These recent attacks demonstrate the military’s continued use of disproportionate force in areas where civilians are present, without apparent military targets. The bombing of Aung Gyi Nyaung Pin Thar village, in particular, highlights the indiscriminate nature of these attacks, as the village had no military presence and was purely a civilian settlement.
