All schools in Myaing and Yesagyo Townships of Magway Region have been temporarily closed to protect against the military council’s aerial strikes, according to announcements from the respective education board committees. Starting from May 13, all ground schools in Myaing Township have been temporarily closed for the safety of students and teachers, with no specific date set for reopening, as stated by an official from the Myaing Township Education Board.
The closure decision comes in response to a tragic incident on May 12 in Ohtainkwin village, Depaeyin Township, Sagaing Region, where an aerial attack by the military council resulted in the immediate deaths of two teachers and twenty students, with over fifty other students sustaining injuries. Education board officials have advised the public to prioritize their safety, avoid gatherings, and prepare bomb shelters and trenches as precautionary measures.
The Yesagyo Township Education Board has also issued an official announcement regarding the temporary closure of all public-based ground schools in the township to protect against aerial strike threats. The board stated that the reopening of schools will be contingent upon thorough assessments of air defense preparations and the adequate training of air raid and artillery defense practices. Only schools with secure and safe learning environments will be permitted to resume operations.
