The commander of the Southern Military Region Special Operations Force, Comrade Aung San Shyar, has revealed that the military council is spreading false propaganda using old photos claiming they have recaptured Infantry Battalion 598 headquarters in Shwegyin Township, Bago Region, which was seized by revolutionary forces. On May 8, combined forces including KNLA, SOF, PDF, PKPF, local PDF, and drone units successfully attacked and captured the battalion headquarters located in Nyaungchaytauk village. During the operation, they seized 83 heavy and light weapons, ammunition, generators, and captured 6 prisoners of war, 4 defectors, and 7 family members. They also recovered 30 military casualties, while all officers and approximately 50 soldiers from the military side fled the base.
Currently, the military council is launching aerial attacks, artillery fire, drone operations, and ground offensives to attempt to recapture Infantry Battalion 598 headquarters, Kwanseik military outpost, and Kwanseik police station, which are under the control of combined KNLA and PDF forces. The revolutionary forces are conducting clearance operations and security measures in and around Kwanseik, Kyaikdayat, Nyaungchaytauk, Shansuu village, and surrounding areas. Intense daily clashes continue between revolutionary forces and military columns in these areas. The military council falsely claimed on May 11 that they had regained control of Infantry Battalion 598, but due to the fighting, there are no intact buildings remaining at the base, with all structures at the battalion headquarters having been destroyed.
Comrade Aung San Shyar explained that the photos being used in the military council’s propaganda show undamaged battalion buildings, proving they are old photos being used for psychological warfare operations. The military council is currently continuing its offensive to recapture the Infantry Battalion 598 headquarters with over 300 troops, and fierce battles are ongoing in the area. The revolutionary forces maintain their position that the military council’s claims of recapturing and establishing control over the base are completely false, as the infrastructure has been destroyed and neither side can currently establish a permanent presence at the heavily contested location.
