The military council conducted airstrikes using fighter jets and Y-12 aircraft on Win Kan village in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, resulting in extensive damage to numerous houses and injuries to two civilians. On May 10th at 10:30 AM, military council aircraft deliberately carried out aerial attacks on Win Kan village without any ongoing conflict in the area. The bombs dropped by the aircraft exploded within the village, causing multiple houses to burn down and sustain significant damage.
Later that same day, in the evening of May 10th, the military council launched another attack using a Y-12 aircraft targeting the same village. This second attack resulted in four more houses being destroyed by fire. According to local residents, these attacks were believed to be retaliatory actions by the military council following the capture of their Infantry Battalion 598 in Nyaung Le Pin. The attacks have left local residents feeling unsafe in their homes and living in fear.
Despite the military council’s declaration of a unilateral ceasefire from May 6th to May 31st, they continue to conduct airstrikes, artillery shelling, and offensive operations throughout the country, as confirmed by ethnic armed organizations and revolutionary groups. The international community has expressed serious concern over these war crimes against civilians and is calling for action to be taken. These attacks demonstrate the military council’s ongoing pattern of targeting civilian populations, causing destruction of civilian infrastructure and forcing people to flee their homes for safety.
