In Thonepanlal village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, military council forces conducted an aerial attack using mechanized paratroopers, resulting in the death of three civilians, including a 10-year-old fourth-grade student, despite there being no ongoing conflict in the area. The incident occurred on the morning of May 10, when the military deliberately attacked while villagers were going about their normal daily activities. Additionally, two civilians were injured in the attack, according to local residents.
Although the military council announced a nationwide ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, in reality, they continue to conduct airstrikes, drone bombing attacks, and military operations throughout the country. These deliberate attacks on civilians have resulted in daily casualties and injuries among innocent people. According to statements from revolutionary forces, the military council has not ceased its offensive operations despite declaring a ceasefire, but rather has intensified its attacks.
Thonepanlal village is a civilian settlement in the Sagaing Region, and this aerial attack during a time of no active conflict serves as further evidence of the military council’s war crimes. According to local residents, even before this incident, the military council had been committing acts of violence against civilians in the region, including looting property and burning down buildings. The targeting of civilian areas without any military engagement demonstrates the military council’s continued pattern of violence against its own people, despite their public claims of seeking peace through temporary ceasefires.
