In Thonepanlal village of Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, military council forces conducted an aerial attack using mechanized paratroopers, resulting in the death of three civilians, including a 10-year-old fourth-grade student, despite there being no active fighting in the area. The incident occurred on the morning of May 10, when the military deliberately targeted the village while residents were going about their normal daily activities. The aerial assault also left two other civilians injured, according to local sources.
Although the military council announced a nationwide temporary ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, in reality, they have continued to conduct aerial attacks, drone bombings, and military operations throughout the country. This aerial attack on Thonepanlal village further demonstrates that the military council’s ceasefire declaration has no practical effect. The deliberate targeting of civilians even in the absence of active fighting has caused significant fear and concern among local residents. The revolutionary forces have reported that the military continues to carry out offensive operations despite their own announced ceasefire.
According to local residents, Thonepanlal village was previously a peaceful community where people lived and worked harmoniously. However, the military council’s violent attacks have severely disrupted the villagers’ daily lives. The impact has been particularly severe on basic necessities such as children’s education and healthcare, with many families being forced to flee their homes and become internally displaced persons. The situation continues to deteriorate as the military council persists with its aggressive actions against civilian populations, disregarding the humanitarian consequences of their operations and their own declared ceasefire commitments.
