According to local military sources and Thai media reports, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces are conducting attacks on military council camps in Phayathonzu town, Hlaingbwe Township, along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State. The offensive began on the morning of May 7, with KNLA-led joint forces using drones to launch bombing attacks on military council positions around Phayathonzu town. The fighting continues at present, with resistance forces maintaining their siege of the military council camps.
As a result of the ongoing conflict, 327 local residents have fled to the Thai side of the border. Thai military forces have significantly increased security measures along the border area. Currently, fighting is occurring across all Karen National Union (KNU) brigade territories, with notably intensive operations in Brigade 7 area, which had previously seen relatively less combat activity. A revolutionary force member from the Southern Military Region reported that resistance forces have been consistently capturing military council outposts in this area.
Along the Thaungyin River at the Thai-Myanmar border, most military council camps have been destroyed due to attacks by revolutionary forces, though some camps remain in interior regions. These current battles are part of the broader Spring Revolution, representing a coordinated effort by revolutionary forces to end the military dictatorship system. The ongoing offensive reflects the continued resistance against the military council’s control in border regions and demonstrates the growing strength of ethnic armed organizations and their allied forces in challenging the military council’s authority.
