The People’s Defense Force of Tanintharyi Township has confirmed that revolutionary forces successfully attacked the military junta’s frontline outpost at Waritpeinhtawpyin, located on the border of Tanintharyi and Kyunsu Townships in Tanintharyi Region. The attack, which occurred on the morning of May 6, resulted in the death of four military personnel, including Major Myint Win, while nine others were injured, forcing the remaining troops to abandon the outpost. The battle began at 5:55 AM and continued intensely for over two and a half hours.
During the engagement, the military junta deployed both air and naval assets in an attempt to defend the position. A military aircraft and a helicopter conducted seven bombing runs, with the helicopter also providing additional fire support using various weapons. A navy vessel also participated in the battle, firing multiple rounds from heavy weapons. Despite this significant military response, the effectiveness of the revolutionary forces’ assault compelled all military personnel within the outpost to retreat and abandon their position. The intensity of the battle was marked by three distinct waves of heavy fighting, with both sides employing a variety of heavy and light weapons.
This operation was a coordinated effort involving multiple revolutionary forces, including the Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Force, Myeik District Battalion 2, Kyunsu People’s Defense Force, and the Regional People’s Defense Force. The successful capture of this strategic outpost represents a significant blow to the military junta’s control in the region. The operation demonstrated the growing capabilities of the revolutionary forces and their ability to coordinate complex military operations effectively, even in the face of the military’s superior air and naval assets. The loss of this outpost, along with the casualties suffered by the military forces, including a high-ranking officer, indicates a continuing erosion of the junta’s military control in the Tanintharyi region.
