A military council jet fighter conducted an airstrike on Inpintaw village in Ye-U Township, Sagaing Region, killing a woman in her 40s despite there being no active fighting in the area, according to a spokesperson from the Ye-U Township People’s Defense Force. The attack occurred around 9 AM on May 5, when an Mi-29 fighter jet from the Meiktila Air Base deliberately targeted the village with two 250-pound bombs.
The airstrike killed a woman who was cooking at the time and injured two others, though their injuries are not life-threatening. The attack caused damage to several homes in the village and bombs also fell in nearby farmlands. While there has been no active fighting in Ye-U Township for some time, the military council continues to conduct frequent airstrikes targeting civilian populations. Although the military council has announced a ceasefire citing earthquake relief efforts, officials report that in reality, they continue to carry out aerial attacks against civilians.
Local authorities are urging residents to pay special attention to air raid warnings and follow air defense procedures for their safety. Similarly, on the same morning, the military council conducted an airstrike near Chaungma East village in Kani Township, though there was no active fighting there either. While no casualties were reported in that incident, the attack damaged an uninhabited fire station building. These incidents demonstrate the military council’s ongoing pattern of conducting unprovoked airstrikes against civilian areas, even in the absence of military engagement with resistance forces.
