Local residents and military sources have confirmed that the military council has conducted another series of airstrikes on the public hospital and several locations in Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State, which is currently under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). This attack, which occurred on the morning of May 5, marks the second time the hospital has been targeted by aerial bombardment, following the first attack that took place in January of this year.
The attacks were carried out in two consecutive strikes at 11:15 AM and 11:21 AM, with military council fighter aircraft circling the hospital area for an extended period before dropping bombs. According to local witnesses, the bombing targeted the hospital and surrounding areas. The extent of damage and casualties from this latest attack is still being assessed. During the previous attack on January 25, two civilians were killed, including a CDM nurse, and more than twenty people were injured.
The military council has intensified its aerial attacks on cities under TNLA control, including Mogok, Naung Cho, and Kyaukme, following the failure of peace talks held in Kunming, China. These ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure and humanitarian facilities such as hospitals have raised serious concerns about the safety and access to healthcare for local populations. The targeting of medical facilities represents a significant threat to civilian well-being and violates international humanitarian principles regarding the protection of medical facilities during conflicts.
