According to statements from People’s Defense Forces (PDF), 30 military council troops were killed in various battles across Myanmar on May 1st. These casualties occurred during clashes in different regions and states throughout the country. The People’s Defense Forces have been engaging in defensive operations when military council troops enter their territories.
The resistance forces are fighting against the military council troops due to their continued forced conscription of local civilians and use of human shields in military operations. However, it should be noted that these casualty figures are based solely on statements and reports from local defense forces, and independent journalists have not been able to verify the actual casualties on the ground.
The military council continues to commit violence against civilians, with thousands of people killed since the military coup and hundreds of thousands forced to flee their homes as internally displaced persons. The military council forces have also been destroying, burning, and looting civilian properties. As a result, the People’s Defense Forces are fighting against military council troops to protect civilians from these ongoing atrocities.
