The resistance forces have confirmed launching an attack on the military council’s air base in Taungoo, Bago Region, using six 107mm artillery shells. The attack on the Ketumadi air base was carried out at 9:35 PM on April 30, with all six shells successfully hitting their targets. The operation was part of a broader strategy to diminish the military council’s air capabilities in the region.
The Taungoo air base serves as a crucial military aviation facility that has been conducting regular airstrikes against revolutionary forces and civilians in Karen State, Karenni State, Southern Shan State, and the Bago region. Following earthquake damage to the Naypyidaw-based Ela air base, several aircraft were relocated to Taungoo, leading to increased aerial operations from this location. This prompted resistance forces to plan this attack as part of their air force suppression mission.
The coordinated attack was carried out by a coalition of revolutionary forces including the Brave Warriors for Myanmar, Mountain Knight Civilian Defense Forces, Anti-Coup People’s Liberation Force, and the Northern Thandaung Special Region Group. Although the military council responded with heavy artillery fire using 120mm and 60mm weapons and machine guns until 11 PM, the resistance forces managed to withdraw safely from the operation zone. The attack on the air base came on the same day as an earlier offensive against the military council’s Southern Command Headquarters, demonstrating the resistance forces’ capability to conduct multiple coordinated operations within a 24-hour period.
