A coordinated attack by resistance forces on military council troops conducting extortion operations at Sagaing University in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, has resulted in at least 10 military casualties, according to a spokesperson from the Lin Youn Brothers Guerrilla Force. The attack took place around 5:20 PM on April 29, targeting military council soldiers who had set up checkpoints inside Sagaing University campus and at the Kantaloo toll gate, where they had been extorting money from passing civilian vehicles.
During the operation, resistance forces launched a 40mm explosive device at a group of military council soldiers who were preparing meals at the university checkpoint, directly hitting an area where approximately 9-10 soldiers were gathered. This initial strike was followed by small arms fire. At the Kantaloo toll gate, the attack began with a mine explosion that immediately knocked down at least three military council soldiers, though their fate could not be confirmed. The spokesperson from the Lin Youn Brothers Guerrilla Force detailed how the coordinated attacks were carried out simultaneously at both locations, employing a combination of explosive devices and small arms fire.
The attack resulted in confirmed deaths of at least 10 military council soldiers and numerous injuries. During the evacuation of dead and wounded soldiers, military council forces responded with indiscriminate heavy weapons and small arms fire in the surrounding area, causing explosions and fires in nearby civilian farmlands. The operation was jointly conducted by the Lin Youn Brothers Guerrilla Force and Sagaing PDF, with all resistance fighters successfully withdrawing from the area without casualties. The successful coordinated attack demonstrated the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting complex operations against military council positions that have been used to oppress and extort money from local civilians.
