According to statements and reports from People’s Defense Forces, 40 members of the military council forces were killed in various battles across Myanmar on April 28. These casualties occurred during clashes in different states and regions, resulting from defensive operations by People’s Defense Forces. The PDFs engaged in these counter-attacks in response to the military council’s ongoing violence against local civilians.
The casualty figures were compiled based on official statements and communications from People’s Defense Forces operating in various regions. However, it should be noted that the actual number of casualties on the ground may be higher or lower than the reported figures, as direct field verification of these deaths has not been possible. This limitation in verification is due to the inability to access the areas where these confrontations took place.
The People’s Defense Forces continue to engage in combat operations to protect civilians from the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence, which includes arbitrary arrests, torture, and killings. Additionally, the military council continues to force young people into military service, seize civilian property, and engage in acts of arson and destruction. These defensive actions by the PDFs are necessary responses to protect the civilian population from the military council’s systematic oppression and violence against the people of Myanmar.
