Following the major earthquake in Sagaing Region, Myanmar has experienced a significant surge in cement prices, reaching up to 40,000 kyats per bag. In response to this price increase, the military council’s second-in-command, Soe Win, issued an order setting the maximum price at 17,000 kyats per bag. However, despite this directive, cement retailers continued to sell at higher prices, leading to the military council’s arrest of 62 shops and 8 business owners for alleged price gouging.
In Kanma Township, Magway Region, revolutionary forces successfully captured the military council’s Yenantha Police Station. During the attack, the police station chief and most officers fled after declaring their surrender. The revolutionary forces managed to capture one police officer alive and seized various weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles, as confirmed by Ko Myat, the commander of PDF Battalion 4 in Tharrawaddy District. This successful operation demonstrates the increasing military capabilities of the revolutionary forces in their resistance against the military council.
In Myitkyina, Kachin State, an artillery shell fired from the military council’s Northern Command Headquarters struck the Maliha Housing Complex, where non-CDM staff under their administration resided. The incident resulted in one fatality and caused significant damage to the staff housing complex. This incident of artillery fire hitting their own subordinates’ residential area reflects the military council’s disorganized operations and lack of proper coordination, even resulting in casualties among their own affiliated personnel.
