Five civilians were killed in aerial attacks by the military council forces in Yesagyo Township of Magway Region and Kalewa Township of Sagaing Region. According to a representative from the Yesagyo Township Info Committee, the military forces conducted an aerial bombardment on Sinmarye village in Yesagyo Township around 9:30 PM on April 23, resulting in the deaths of two civilians. The victims were identified as Daw San Myint Kyi, 68, from Sinmarye village, and Ko Nyo Lin Aung, 43, from Layarpyi village located southwest of Sinmarye. The latter reportedly died from hypertension induced by the terror of the attack.
On April 24, the military council forces carried out another aerial attack using a Y12 aircraft on Masein village in Kalewa Township, killing three civilians who were working at a gold panning site. The People’s Defense Force of Kalewa Township confirmed these casualties in their statement. Notably, Masein village was under the control of the military council at the time of the attack, yet the forces still conducted the aerial bombardment on their own controlled territory. This incident highlights the indiscriminate nature of the military council’s attacks on civilian populations.
Additionally, the military council forces launched an aerial attack on Kanpyi (Kabyat) village in Minkyin Township using a Y12 aircraft. However, the exact extent of damage and casualties from this attack has not yet been confirmed. These continued aerial attacks by the military council resulting in civilian casualties serve as further evidence of their brutal actions against the people of Myanmar. The attacks demonstrate the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilians, regardless of whether they are in areas under their control or not.
