A commander from the People’s Defense Force’s Southern Military Region has confirmed that allied forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Kwan Seik camp in Shwegyin Township, Bago Region. The capture occurred on the morning of April 23, 2024, through a coordinated offensive operation by the revolutionary forces. The commander further clarified that fighting continues in the area at present.
All military regions under the Karen National Union (KNU) are currently conducting unified offensive operations against military council camps. KNLA sources have confirmed that they are continuously attacking and capturing military camps near the Thai-Myanmar border, particularly in KNU Brigade 7 territory. These joint offensive operations by revolutionary forces have resulted in the steady decline of territory under military council control, while areas under revolutionary forces’ control continue to expand.
Revolutionary forces have successfully captured numerous military council camps this year, including the Thyapyay Nyunt camp in March. These battles have resulted in significant casualties among military council troops and the capture of substantial amounts of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment. Revolutionary forces are working to strengthen their military cooperation and will continue their operations to liberate more territories from military council control. The successful capture of the Kwan Seik camp represents another strategic victory in the ongoing resistance against the military council’s oppression of civilians and forced military service practices.
