Following the military council’s second ceasefire announcement, airstrikes and military operations have continued unabated in Kachin State, according to KIA military sources. On April 22 at 2:40 PM, the military council conducted an airstrike on Sanwin Kone village, located on the Nam Mun-Mana Kaw road east of Indawgyi in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, using two fighter jets that dropped four bombs, resulting in civilian casualties. Similarly, around 11 PM on the same day, the military conducted an airstrike on a clinic in Taunping village, located in KIA Brigade 26 territory under Division 9 in Mohnyin Township, with potential civilian casualties reported.
In Hpakant Township, fighting has continued for approximately 10 days around Lawa village due to military operations along the Lawa-Kamine road. The military has not only conducted airstrikes on Lawa village using fighter jets but has also been burning civilian homes on the ground. Currently, the military is conducting operations with approximately 300 troops around Magaung Taung village on the Lawa-Kamine road, attempting to establish territorial control over the Hpakant road. During the Thingyan festival period, military council forces and SNA allied troops, numbering around 300, launched operations against Mohan village in Mohnyin Township near the Kachin-Sagaing border, forcing residents of Mohan village and surrounding areas to flee. Additionally, daily airstrikes continue to target Banmaw city, according to KIA military sources. Despite the military council’s announcement of a seven-day ceasefire from April 23 to April 30, attacks have persisted on the ground.
The ongoing military operations demonstrate a clear pattern of continued aggression despite public declarations of ceasefire. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis with civilians forced to flee their homes, particularly in areas around Mohan village and the Kachin-Sagaing border region. The military’s use of airstrikes against civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, represents a serious escalation of violence in the region. The combination of ground operations and aerial bombardment has significantly impacted civilian populations, with reports of casualties and widespread displacement continuing to emerge from affected areas.
