
Two civilians were killed and seven others were injured when the military council forces launched an unprovoked artillery attack on Panhtaw Gyi village in Salin Township, Magway Region, according to a representative from the Salin Township People’s Administration Group. The incident occurred on April 19, 2024, when the military fired heavy weapons at the village without any ongoing fighting in the area.
The artillery strike resulted in the immediate death of one man and one woman from Panhtaw Gyi village after they were hit by artillery shell fragments. Additionally, four children aged between 4 and 14 years old, along with their mothers, were injured while attempting to flee the village during the artillery barrage. The total number of injured civilians stands at seven, according to local sources.
Villagers were forced to quickly evacuate to safety following the military’s artillery attack, while the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Local residents reported that such unprovoked artillery attacks on civilian areas continue to result in casualties among innocent civilians. The military’s indiscriminate shelling of residential areas has become a recurring incident that has caused significant civilian casualties and displacement in the region.
