
Following the capture of Indaw town in Sagaing Region by revolutionary forces, more than thirty perpetrators have been arrested, including General Administration Department staff, township administrator, Pyu Saw Htee members, and SNA forces who were involved in the killings of civilians and revolutionary fighters, according to the People’s Defense Force in Indaw. After the final capture of the town on April 7, investigations are being conducted into those who participated in the mass killings of civilians and family members of resistance fighters.
Among those arrested is Township Administrator Maung Hla Tint, who was known for firing weapons recklessly around town while drunk and played a key role in arresting and imprisoning local civilians. The arrests also include Pyu Saw Htee leader Tin Zaw Win, who led the mass killing of eight PDF family members in Nat Ma Hut Gyi village on October 28, 2022, along with Pyu Saw Htee leader Aung Myint Naing and Pyu Saw Htee member Aung Win from Aung Kone village.
The battle for Indaw town began on August 16, 2024, with joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF). After more than eight months of fighting, the town was finally captured on the evening of April 7, 2025. During the battle, over 180 military prisoners were captured, including Colonel General Aung Thet Oo, commander of Division 77, along with a large cache of weapons and ammunition. The arrested perpetrators have been transferred to division-level revolutionary organizations for further investigation and questioning.
