The People’s Police Force of Bokpyin Township has announced that resistance forces successfully captured the Htee Hta Strategic Camp in Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, resulting in the deaths of approximately 100 military council troops, including their strategic commander. The battle began at 3 PM on April 12 and continued with intense fighting for over a week before the camp was finally captured at 5 PM on April 19.
During the battle, despite the military council’s daily aerial attacks using Mi-17 helicopters, K-8W jet fighters, and Y-12 aircraft, the revolutionary forces managed to successfully seize the camp. The resistance forces suffered one casualty while capturing significant military equipment from the council forces, including two 120mm weapons, multiple 60mm and 40mm weapons, RPGs, machine guns, and substantial ammunition. The military council’s attempts to defend the strategic position through intensive air strikes proved ineffective against the determined revolutionary forces.
The operation to capture the Htee Hta Strategic Camp involved a coordinated effort between multiple revolutionary groups, including forces led by the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 4 Commander, People’s Defense Force battalions under the National Unity Government (NUG), and the Bokpyin Township People’s Police Force. This victory represents a significant milestone in Myanmar’s revolution, demonstrating the capabilities and unity of the revolutionary forces in their struggle against the military council. The successful capture of this strategic position, despite facing heavy aerial bombardment and military resistance, highlights the growing strength and tactical effectiveness of the combined revolutionary forces.
