The administrator of Nyaung Yo village tract in Htone Bo Township, Bago Region, Naing Oo, was shot dead on April 20th after previously challenging revolutionary forces. The incident occurred around 6:10 AM during a donation ceremony in Nyaung Yo village. Members of the Thayawady District Battalion 3802’s Underground Guerrilla Unit 4 carried out the attack against the administrator.
Naing Oo was at the donation ceremony attempting to forcibly recruit local youth as porters when he was attacked. During the assault, he was shot once in the head and died instantly. Revolutionary forces seized two hand grenades, one mobile phone, 100,000 kyats in cash, and an identification card from his possession. The administrator had been receiving weapons from the military council and had been extorting money from local civilians under the guise of military service fees. He had been forcibly recruiting not only young people but also elderly individuals over 60 years old as porters, while also threatening revolutionary forces and civilians.
According to resistance sources, Naing Oo had been operating alongside military council troops in villages west of Htone Bo town, conducting forced porter recruitment drives. He had become a target of revolutionary forces due to his activities oppressing local civilians and challenging resistance groups. The People’s Defense Force spokesperson stated that Naing Oo had been specifically threatening PDF forces, telling them to ‘come if they dare’ to the western part of Htone Bo. The resistance forces have warned civilians to avoid proximity to military council associates and their supporters as they plan to intensify operations against such targets in the area.
