
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar, in his capacity as ASEAN Chair, has held separate meetings with National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister Man Win Khaing Than and military council leader Min Aung Hlaing. According to the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, both meetings were constructive and proceeded without objections from either side. These meetings were aimed at discussing Myanmar’s current situation and humanitarian issues affecting the country.
The meeting with the NUG Prime Minister was conducted online and lasted 40 minutes, primarily focusing on the delivery of emergency humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar people and ensuring aid reaches those in need. During the discussion, the NUG Prime Minister expressed his desire to meet in person in Malaysia when circumstances permit. The meeting was attended by NUG Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, and the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Regarding the meeting with the military council leader, the Malaysian Prime Minister reported that the discussions were constructive, with neither side objecting to the other’s meeting. He emphasized the importance of building trust and continuing efforts under ASEAN’s leadership. The Prime Minister also stated his commitment to ongoing discussions with all relevant parties to promote the interests of the Myanmar people, national reconciliation, and peace. The Malaysian government maintains its position on working towards resolving the humanitarian crisis while ensuring aid reaches those most in need within Myanmar.
