At least two civilians were killed when military council forces conducted an aerial bombardment on Thaungtan village in Htone Tine Township, Bago Region, on April 15 around 3 PM, according to local residents. The airstrike, which occurred without any ongoing fighting in the area, injured four members of the same family, with Ko Myo, age 35, and his wife succumbing to severe injuries sustained during the attack.
Thaungtan village is a civilian settlement where residents primarily engage in farming and agricultural activities. The village has no military or armed group presence, with villagers peacefully going about their daily lives and livelihoods. According to a local resident’s account, the aerial attack came suddenly without any preceding conflict, and the two victims died while being transported for medical treatment after sustaining injuries from the bombing. The remaining two family members who were injured in the attack are still receiving medical care.
The military council has intensified its air operations across the country during the Thingyan festival period, leading to a rising daily toll of civilian casualties, according to revolutionary organizations. They have particularly highlighted the targeting of civilian areas, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and destruction of civilian property and livelihoods. The revolutionary forces have documented an increasing pattern of unprovoked attacks on civilian populations, emphasizing the military council’s continued use of airstrikes against non-military targets throughout Myanmar.
